When searching for your next purchase to hold your cash, cards & maybe coins, you may no doubt find yourself debating about going for a card holder or a wallet. What are the pros & cons to each? I can also shed some personal experience.

How would I define a card holder?
A card holder is exactly that it holds cards. No full size cash pocket. No coin pocket. Just card slots, some may have 1 single pocket and others have up to 7 or more pockets. So as with anything card holders vary greatly in design and styles. However the primary objective is to be very compact and store cards.
Is a card holder and a card wallet the same thing?
The terms can be used interchangeably. Although a card wallet can be a little more vague and indicates it maybe a larger and more suited to housing cash. However both have a focus on minimalism and compact design to primarily house cards; credit cards, licences, health cards and gift cards. Below is an example of a card wallet.

How would I define a wallet?
A wallet is a larger design that takes into consideration cards, cash and sometimes coins. The footprint of a wallet is much larger to allow for full size cash pockets & sometimes also a coin pocket. Additionally a wallet can have many card slots, supporting 10 or more cards with a full size cash pocket is not uncommon.
Is a card wallet and a wallet the same thing?
A little confusing once again. And yes. The terms are also used interchangeably. However a wallet generally implies a much larger footprint than a minimalist card wallet. So if you are buying a wallet expect a larger bulkier item that will have more consideration given to cash and coins.
Wallet for credit cards
If you rarely carry cash and only in small amounts, going for a card holder is a no brainer. Just simply fold the fifty dollar note, slide it into the center pocket for safe keeping. A card holder fits in any pant pocket with so much ease. If you're a back pocket person, you will hardly know you've been sitting on it all day. Ditch the bulky wallet & go minimal, you wont look back.

Conclusion
There is no denying that some occupations require lots of induction cards, licences & membership cards. In these circumstances the traditional wallet, with lots of card slots makes sense as they accommodate all the essentials.
However we are moving towards a more digital world with many apps housing our licences & cards, only needing basic bank cards to withdraw money & your driving licence in case your phone goes flat.
So personally I have taken the leap from a large wallet and have been using our vertical card holder for the last 6 months. No regrets here :-)
